Charlie Cox on how ‘The Defenders’ finale affects ‘Daredevil’ season 3

Daredevil

If you’ve already powered your way through Netflix’s “The Defenders” miniseries, then you know things aren’t looking so hot for Matt Murdock heading into “Daredevil” season 3.

Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage are pretty much in mourning after the show’s shocking finale, which seemingly featured the death of the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen during his battle with his beloved Elektra. However, as fans saw in the last episode’s final moments, Daredevil is actually alive and kicking, although he’s definitely worse for the wear.

As for the man behind the mask, actor Charlie Cox had no idea what was in store for his character while reading the script for the finale.

“I’ve been told we were going to do a season 3 of ‘Daredevil.’ I was reading that and was like ‘Woah, hold on a second. What’s this all about?'” Cox tells Metro. “I was relieved that the final moment was included to clarify that he lives to fight another day.”

While “The Defenders” takes place over the course of just about a week, the show will obviously have serious repercussions on the future of the man without fear.

Due to the way things ended on the miniseries, fans are speculating that the third season of “Daredevil” will borrow heavily from the popular “Born Again” comic book storyline. Of course, Cox can’t spill the beans on what’s to come for the hero, but he did reveal that Murdock will still have to deal with plenty of issues for his past.

“All of the demons that are haunting Matt prior to ‘The Defenders’ are still there. They haven’t gone anywhere,” says Cox. “When we do get to ‘Daredevil’ season 3, I don’t know what that will be about, I have no information, but I still think he has to live with everything that happened at the end of season 2. He has to come to terms with all of that stuff.”

He adds, “It’s obviously been confused and highlighted by Elektra’s appearance in ‘The Defenders’ – or whoever that person is. I don’t think it’s all sunshine and roses from here on out.”

Overall, Cox is happy that “The Defenders” has finally been released, mostly so he doesn’t have to worry about revealing any spoilers in interviews.

“The last month and a half I’ve been on a worldwide press tour talking about this show, doing everything I can to not reveal what I’m not supposed to reveal,” Cox says. “It’s a nice relief to know that I don’t have to worry about that anymore.”
