Chiarelli: Infrastructure investment ‘exceptional’

In the past several years, the level of infrastructure investment in the City of Ottawa has been “exceptional,” the province’s minister of Infrastructure said yesterday.

As part of the development of a new 10-year plan for infrastructure, the province is in the process of doing provincewide consultations with all of the stakeholders, said former Ottawa Mayor Bob Chiarelli yesterday.

“This is the fifth such consultation process where we’re seeking advice from the people who need that infrastructure, who use that infrastructure, as to what we need in the 10-year-plan going forward.”

Over the last six years, the province has invested about $1.5 billion in healthcare, education and capital infrastructure in Ottawa, Chiarelli said.

“We’ve seen almost a billion dollars committed or spent in transit, and we’ve seen $750 million in healthcare capital.”
