Chilliwack teacher charged with sexual assault

A 38-year-old elementary school teacher in Chilliwack has been arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault and two counts of interference, RCMP announced Tuesday.

The charges stem from a complaint made by a parent in relation to incidents alleged to have occurred from Sept. 2009 to May 2010.

“These are very serious allegations, and that’s why the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime unit immediately launched an investigation as soon as the School District brought the matter to our attention,” said Sgt. Peter Thiessen.

Jason Epp is not allowed to have contact with current or former students, and is banned from public parks, playgrounds or recreational areas where children may be present.

This is the second Lower Mainland elementary school teacher charged with sexually assault students this month.

Aleksandr Plehanov, a substitute teacher in Coquitlam, is accused of sexually assaulting four children in a Grade 3 class.
