Chinatown to get facelift for 100th

Calgary’s Chinatown is about to get a makeover to celebrate its centennial, city officials say.

It’s been relocated and re-invented numerous times over the years, but this time it’s going to get a whole new fresh look, says city community services coordinator Deb White.

“We’ve taken the work that we already had on the books and said, ‘how can we leverage it to maximize the improvements’,” White said.

In addition to banner-art waving on red lampposts, new recycling bins will be installed, improved lighting will line Centre Street Bridge, and a redeveloped Sien Lok Park.

Development would occur late 2010 after stakeholder engagement in the fall.
