With a huge condo construction project nearby, Wang’s Restaurant is brave moving into this Brenton Place location, already abandoned by The Cellar and Curry Village.

The basement space is comfy with lovely decor, but Friday lunchtime shouldn’t be this quiet.

We try two lunch specials that come with rice and a drink, which for us means Chinese tea.

For an extra dollar we each have an excellent spring roll full of fresh, crisp vegetables.

Crispy Shredded Chili Beef Combo with steamed rice certainly looks delicious but the meat is seriously overcooked.

The Spicy Chicken Combo suffers the same ailment — the chicken is dry and overdone.
What a shame as the dishes are beautifully presented, nicely spiced, and awash with little chili peppers. And the Egg Fried Rice is tasty.

The servers are likeable and efficient, but Wang’s faces a grand challenge to attract more patrons to the neighbourhood.
