Famous comedian Chris Rock tested the limits of his popularity during this weekend’s filming of “Saturday Night Live” by joking about two of the nation’s deadliest and most traumatic terror attacks. The former SNL cast member returned to the show on Nov. 1 as its host. During his opening monologue, Rock reference the Boston Marathon bombing by saying, “Tomorrow’s the New York City marathon. What could go wrong there, right?” Three people were killed and 260 were injured when twin bombs exploded at Boston’s Boylston Street finish line on April 15, 2013. Several people lost limbs.
He went on to say, “That was probably the most frightening, sadistic terrorist attack ever.Their knees are hurting, their feet are killing them… You’ve been training for a year, you finally get to the finish line, and somebody screams: ‘Run!’ But hey, the good people of Boston bounced back.” Rock next poked fun at New York City’s Freedom Tower, which stands on the site of the infamous 9/11 World Trade Center terror attack.
“They should change the name from the Freedom Tower to the ‘Never Going in There’ Tower. Because I’m never going in there. There is no circumstance that will ever get me in that building. Are you kidding me?” Rock said, asking if the building’s corporate sponsor is “Target.” “I am never going in the Freedom Tower. I don’t care if Scarlett Johansson is butt naked on the 89th floor in a plate of ribs,” said Rock.
