Leading Democratic candidate and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn took to the steps of city hall Tuesday to accept endorsements from four more colleagues on the council.

Council Members Stephen Levin, Michael Nelson, Mark Weprin and James Gennaro cited her leadership and ability to represent New York as reasons for their endorsements.

“I can tell you we face major challenges in the city,” said Levin, a Brooklyn Democrat. “Every year, I have been absolutely confident that our Speaker Christine Quinn will stand up for everyday new Yorkers and the needs of everyday New Yorkers.”

In his endorsement, Queens Democrat Weprin noted Quinn is a “real New Yorker” and has the ability to connect with every city resident, including his 5-year-old daughter.

“Christine Quinn was able to engage my daughter and her ability to connect with this 5-year-old, just goes to show the fact that children know B.S. when they see it and she realized this is really someone who is reaching out and being sincere,” Weprin said.

Ten other council members have already endorsed Quinn for mayor, securing support from 28 percent of the City Council.
