Church arson suspect sought

Gatineau police have released a composite sketch of a man in hopes that the public can help identify a person of interest who was seen in the parking lot of an Aylmer church before it burned down last week.

A man was seen in the parking lot of St. Paul Church about 30 minutes before the fire, police said.

Police said the man they are seeking is not a suspect, but a person who might have more information about the incident. He is described as between 35 and 45, about 5-10 and weighing about 250 pounds. He has pale skin and was wearing a baseball cap, jeans and a beige sweater with stripes across the chest.

The historical church, which was located on Principale Street, burned to the ground in the early hours of June 11. Police suspect arson in the incident.

Anyone with information about the fire, or the identity of the person of interest, is asked to call Sgt. Robert Charbonneau at 819-243-2345 ext. 6007.
