Citi Bike share opens to daily, weekly members

After its initial annual members-only rollout, Citi Bike has formally opened to everyone on a daily and weekly basis.

Riders can grab a bike at any Citi Bike kiosk with the swipe of a credit card. Daily memberships cost $9.95 for unlimited 30-minute rides and weekly passes cost $25, with additional charges applying for longer rides. For yearly members, the$95 fee allows for unlimited 45-minute rides.

There are currently 6,000 of the distinctive heavy, three-gear blue bikes docked at more than 300 locations around the city, with plans to expand to a fleet of 10,000.

TheDepartment of Transportation gave away500 free bike helmets on Sunday at an event in Union Square marking the program’s launch.
