City clears Hudson Rail Yards western half for mixed use

The City Council voted to rezone the western half of Hudson Rail Yards yesterday, but the dream of a new neighborhood on Manhattan’s far west side is still years away.

The plan to build 12 million square feet of commercial and residential space at 30th Street and 11th Avenue, over the tracks where the LIRR parks trains won’t be completed until 10 years from now.

The developer is still looking for a tenant for the commercial space, as the city’s real estate market struggles to right itself.

The Council also voted to rezone 31 acres of the Broadway Triangle site in Brooklyn to allow housing.
