City council gave final approval to the new Municipal Development Plan, which hopes to encourage transit-oriented development, yesterday.
The Municipal Development Plan was created in conjunction with the Transportation Master Plan after more than almost four years of public consultation and city council deliberation.
“The plan calls for more development to occur in the downtown, our mature areas, and around the LRT stations and transit centres,” said Peter Ohm, the City of Edmonton branch manager of policy and planning.
“And it also addresses the timing and phasing of new residential development in suburban areas. … we can now move on to the next phase, and that’s implementing the numerous plans and guidelines that are being identified and certainly set out our workforce over the next couple years.”
The plan hopes to guide development in and around LRT stations.
