Rather than instituting a citywide prohibition on tanning beds for people under the age of 18, the city will ask Queen’s Park for a provincial ban.
Bay Ward Coun. Alex Cullen had put forward a motion to the city’s community and protective services committee that would ban young people from using the artificial tanning beds.
The intent, he said, is to help reduce the number of melanoma cases that arise each year in the city.
But since there is a private member’s bill at Queen’s Park that would make the ban provincewide, the committee voted to throw its support behind that bill.
