20 New York City medical students were awarded a total of $2.3 million in scholarships to St. George’s University School of Medicine as part of the CityDoctors scholarship program.
The program, in which students promise to work in practice primary care medicine at a New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation hospital after graduating in exchange for financial aid, is in its first year.
Some of the recipients received as much as $200,000 in half or full scholarships for periods of up to four years. The awards are granted based on academic excellence and financial need.
