Protocol for Calgary H1N1 flu clinics will be noticeably different as Alberta Health Services re-starts its vaccine campaign today.
Armed with a new Stampede Grandstand clinic, nurses will be vaccinating only those children who are aged six months to under five years as of Nov. 1.
The deputy medical officer of health, Dr. Judy MacDonald, said updated line management would be the most noticeable change, including a screening process requiring parents or guardians to bring proof of age for their children.
MacDonald also said a sort of number or bracelet system will also be in place for those lining up outside the clinics.
“The intention is to be able to deal with lines so we don’t have those long waits that they had before,” said MacDonald, who also indicated that only the “well” will be vaccinated during this new phase.
The province had closed H1N1 clinics last week after a deluge of Albertans flooded clinics, leading to wait times nearing six hours.
Pregnant women will be able to access the H1N1 vaccine tomorrow.
