Before Michael Alig, aka the convicted “Club Kid Killer,” held a celebratory party to mark the end of his parole at the Rumpus Room Monday night, he had to deal with online death threats, Page Six reported.

Some detractors took to social media to call out the Lower East Side venue for “inviting a violent killer of a Latino gay man” and calling Monday’s party “disrespectful.” One post also said that Alig would “not leave the club alive.”

Another included a photo of Andre “Angel” Melendez, who Alig was convicted of murdering in 1996, along with a post that said, “He would have been 45 years old, but he was violently (killed) by (Alig).”

The former club kid, who is now a creative consultant at the Rumpus Room, spent 17 years in prison on manslaughter charges after he and Robert “Freeze” Riggs killed fellow “Club Kid” Melendez on March 17, 1996. Alig’s parole period, which began in May 2014, ended on Friday.

He planned Monday’s party without realizing “what a can of worms it would be,” he told Page Six. “We just kind of booked it without thinking, which was a real mistake. … It looked like we were being very (offhand) about it and forgetting about the crime.”

After the backlash, Alig wrote on his Facebook page that he would be donating a portion of the proceeds from Monday’s party to Gateway Drug & Alcohol Treatment Center.

“I’m celebrating the day by donating half of my paycheck to Gateway Drug Treatment center,” he wrote. “I’m not gonna become one of those preachy twelve-steppers who urge friends and family members to follow their lead, but if the mood hits you, if you feel like giving back to your community and I had anything to do with that, all the better!”
