The No. 9 Cornell Big Red hosts the No. 10 Clarkson Golden Knights in an Eastern College Athletic Conference showdown tonight at 7 p.m. ET at the Lynah Rink. This is the first of two meetings between these conference foes this season.
Cornell is first in the ECAC with a 9-3-2 conference record and 20 points. They are 13-6-2 overall this season and are coming off a 1-1 tie with Rensselaer back on Feb. 2.
One of the Big Red’s strengths is their penalty kill. They kill off 22% of their penalties which ranks them fourth in the conference.
Sophomore forward Morgan Barron leads the Big Red with 11 goals, 13 assists, and 24 points this season.
The Golden Knights are 18-8-0, 9-5-0 in the conference with 18 points this season and are currently tied for third place in the ECAC with Harvard. Clarkson is coming off a 3-1 win over Princeton in their last contest.
Clarkson will be put to the test tonight when they travel to Cornell. The Golden Knights tend to struggle on the road this season and have a 5-6-0 road record to show for it.
Junior forward Nico Sturm is third in the ECAC with 32 points and his teammate, Haralds Egle is fifth with 28 points. Both Sturm and Egle are tied for fifth in goals with 12 apiece.
Cornell’s and Clarkson’s goaltenders have been playing phenomenally this year; they are ranked second and third in GAA; Jake Kielly of Clarkson has a 1.85 GAA and Matthew Galajda of Cornell has a 1.99 GAA.
