Commuter rails honor Olympic golden girls Raisman and Harrison

The Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company today honored local Olympic heroes Aly Raisman and Kayla Harrison, by unveiling two decked out coaches on the MBTA’s commuter rail fleet.

One coach, which will travel the Needham commuter rail line, will feature a banner with a message of congratulations to Needham’s Aly Raisman, who captured two gold medals and a bronze medal at 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London.

The second coach, which will travel the Newburyport/Rockport line, will celebrate the accomplishments of current Marblehead resident Kayla Harrison, who became the first American to win an Olympic gold medal in judo.

“The Raisman coach will travel the Needham line primarily, since she is a Needham native,” said Tom Halkin, a spokesman for the MBCR. “The Harrison coach will travel the Newburyport/Rockport line, since she currently resides in Marblehead.”

Marblehead is near that line’s Swampscott and Salem stops, Halkin said.

Each coach will carry its banner for approximately one week.
