If the Musicians in Motion Musical Train Ride kickoff was any indication — this is going to be one rockin’ Calgary Folk Music Festival.
Local band Dojo Workhorse performed for delighted Calgary Transit riders yesterday morning on a Crowfoot Station- bound train as part of a joint program now in its third week to kick off to the folk festival starting tomorrow at Prince’s Island Park.
“This is a way for our musicians to bring a little bit of folk festival to all quadrants of the city.
And it’s a great way to create some excitement and anticipation,” said folk festival artistic associate Kenna Burima.
Dojo Workhorse fan favourite Danny Vacon said it was the first time he ever performed on something “mobile.”
“It’s a lot of fun, people coming and going. It’s pretty cool. Maybe next we’ll do folk on a submarine or folk on a plane,” he joked.
Calgary Transit spokesperson Ron Collins is excited to share musical talents with riders on the trains, which will run until Friday.
“It’s a nice treat for our customers,” Collins said. “And they get to see something they don’t see everyday.”
