Competing for the students in Ward 8

The University of Alberta’s North campus attracts thousands of students to Ward 8.

In total there are more than 66,000 people living in the ward’s mature neighbourhoods from the North Saskatchewan to Fox Drive and east to Strathcona County. Further east from the university area, issues include revitalization and school closures.

Coun. Ben Henderson is seeking re-election after serving one term in Ward 4. Henderson is keen to build stronger communities.

Duane Good Striker is an Aboriginal activist who has experience running in federal elections.

Lori Jeffery-Heaney served on council and as mayor in Val Quentin, a small town west of Edmonton.

Hana Razga said she’s been involved in local politics for the past 15 years.

The former human resources consultant for the federal government said she hopes to continue her fight for public transit and affordable housing.

Sheila McKay is also running in the ward.

The five candidates will take part in a public forum at McNally High School on Oct. 30. You can watch the forum online at www.edmonton.ca
