A fire at a downtown condo complex caused $2.5 million in damages Monday morning.
Just after 4 a.m., firefighters were called to a fire at a three-storey, 13-unit condo complex at 237 Lyon St.
Within 45 minutes of firefighters’ arrival, the fire went from second alarm to fifth alarm, said Ottawa fire platoon chief Al Karkkainen.
About 70 firefighters with 17 apparatus attended the scene.
Karkkainen said the building was evacuated and there were no civilian injuries, but one firefighter was taken to hospital with heat exhaustion.
The estimated dollar loss is about $2 million to the structure and half a million to the contents, said Karkkainen.
Although firefighters believe the fire started in one of the upper-level units, the cause is unknown.
Inspectors from the fire department were on scene to determine the cause.
