A worker was killed Tuesday at the construction site of a new 13-story hotel in Brooklyn.

Paul Kennedy, 43, of the Bronx, died at the scene after a piece of equipment fell from a crane and struck him in the head at a Bond Street construction site near Schermerhorn Street, authorities said.

“His scalp was ripped back,” an unnamed construction worker told the New York Daily News. It is unknown if Kennedy had been wearing a hard hat.

The site is a former parking lot that was purchased in 2014 by GFI Hospitality and GFI Development, which owns The Beekman and Ace Hotels. The hotel is expected to open in early 2018.

Work on the project was halted pending an investigation, city officials said.

The city’s Department of Buildings is looking into whether the correct permits have been obtained for the project, Pix 11 reported.
