An Ottawa police officer faces assault charges from the Durham Regional Police.
An Ottawa police sergeant was charged with assault earlier this week, Ottawa police said Thursday. Police said the charge stems from an incident that occurred on July 31 in Whitby, Ont., when the officer was off duty.
The Ottawa police professional standards section has begun an investigation into this matter and police said charges may be laid under the Police Services Act once the criminal matter is completed.
Sgt. Harold Dent’s first appearance is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 12, at an Oshawa courtroom.
