Cope suspended with pay while facing charges

The administrator of the Millbrook First Nation has been suspended with pay until criminal charges are dealt with.

Chief Lawrence Paul made the announcement regarding Alex Cope following an emergency band meeting yesterday morning.

Cope and his common-law wife, Nicole Williams, were arrested Monday night and are each facing 36 firearm and drug-related charges.

“After careful consideration, council unanimously … (decided) our employee, Mr. Cope, would be suspended from his position as band administrator until such time these charges are dealt with by the courts,” Paul told members of the media.
