A Plymouth man is facing a long list of charges after he allegedly punched a police dog and then spit on first responders trying to help him.

Police said the 51-year-old man, whose name they did not release, crashed a van he was driving into a utility pole at about 10 p.m. Thursday, according to the Patriot Ledger. The man then fled from the crash scene.

A police dog was called in to help track down the man. He was eventually found in a wooded area.

When the police dog engaged him, police said the man attempted to fight it off by punching it.

Police eventually arrested the man who then spit on them and EMTs who were called to the scene to help him.

The man faced charges including assault and battery, driving under the influence and interfering with a police dog.
