Cops say gunfire a ‘grow-rip’ gone bad

A 42-year-old man was shot in the torso during an early morning robbery at a marijuana grow-operation in rural Abbotsford on Thursday, police said.

The man is in hospital and is expected to undergo surgery. The shooting is not believed to be related to an attempted hit on alleged gangster Jamie Bacon in Abbotsford on Tuesday.

“All indications are that this was a grow-rip that went bad,” Const. Casey Vinet, a spokesman for Abbotsford police, said in a release.

Police arrived at a property in the 28200 block of Huntington Road at 1:45 a.m. and discovered a 42-year-old man at the front of the house, bleeding from a gunshot wound.

A police dog located two other men at the back of the property. The men had been restrained in an outbuilding with plastic “zap straps” but had managed to escape.

The two were uninjured and are being questioned. Police are looking for two suspects who were wearing masks at the time of the shooting.
