A man wanted in connection with the slaying of his girlfriend in Dorchester Saturday afternoon has been found dead.

Paulo Rosa, 30, of Dorchester, was wanted in connection with the killing of Audilia DaVeiga, a 33-year-old mother of two small children, near 45 Bowdoin Street shortly after 4 p.m. Police responded to the report of a shooting and arrived to find DaVeiga suffering from life threatening injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. It wasn’t clear Sunday whether she died of gunshot wounds. The cause and manner of death remain under investigation, according to Boston Police.

Police said Rosa, who lived with DaVeiga, then made statements about hurting himself and others, prompting authorities to issue a community alert and release a photo of Rosa.

Police then issued a community alert in an attempt to locate Rosa, requesting the public keep an eye out for a blue G37 Infiniti Coupe with license plate number 1LZ-224.

Early Sunday morning, about 12 hours after the slaying, Rosa was found dead in a wooded area some 40 miles-plus south of Dorchester, near the Rehoboth-Swansea town line. Police found his vehicle off Rte. 195 after finding his car abandoned, according to State Police Colonel Superintendent Tim Alben.

An investigation into his death is being conducted by Massachusetts State Police detectives.

The homicide comes after a week in which there was a spate of five shootings within two days in Boston. It also marks the ninth homicide stemming from domestic violence in the state this year.

Daveiga’s Dorchester neighborhood was in mourning this weekend over the slaying.
