Cop’s wife faked home invasion, blamed Black Lives Matter activists

The wife of a Massachusetts police officer faked a robbery, vandalized her own home and blamed Black Lives Matter activists for the alleged crimes, police said.

On Oct. 17, Maria Daly reported that $10,000 worth of jewelry and money had been stolen from the family home, CBS Boston reported. Daly, wife of Millbury Police Officer Daniel Daly, also reported that her house had been tagged with “BLM” in black spray paint, seemingly referencing the Black Lives Matter movement.

“[She]fabricated the entire story,” Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy said. “There was no break-in in the home. There was no larceny from the home. All property that was alleged to be taken has been recovered.”

Maria Daly posted about the “crime” on Facebook after reporting it to police, writing, “We woke up to not only our house being robbed while we were sleeping, but to see this hatred for no reason.”

“If you would have asked me yesterday about this blue lives and black lives matter issue my response would have been very positive. Today on the other hand I have so much anger and hate that I don’t like myself,” the officer’s wife continued, the New York Daily News reported.

“Something wasn’t quite right,”Desorcysaid in a news conference Friday. “I think that was pretty obvious and as a result of that investigation, the officers did their due diligence and followed through with the investigation that we had.”

Investigators suspect that Maria Daly’s financial problems were her motivation for hoax, according to theBoston Herald.

The chief added that Officer Daly was at home and asleep during the time of the alleged crime. His active police dog was home as well, WCVB 5 reported.

“Obviously there was no need for the dog to be agitated because as far as he was concerned, nothing really happened,” Desorcy said.

The chief added that Officer Daly was not involved in the hoax and has been exonerated.

His wife faces charges of filing a false police report and misleading a police investigation.
