Countdown on to city WorldSkills competition

Downtown Calgary is sporting a new clock, except this one isn’t telling time, it’s counting down.

WorldSkills Calgary unveiled its new countdown clock located at Encana Place on the corner of 9 Avenue and 1 Street SW, to remind passersby of the event.

“Today’s unveiling of the countdown clock builds the anticipation among Calgarians and the international community for the WorldSkills Competition,” said Richard Walker, WorldSkills Calgary president and CEO.

Skills workers representing Canada can’t wait for the competition and are excited about having the hometown advantage.

“We know the venue and the fact the everybody speaks English is a big advantage, because it is an international competition so not all competitors speak English, so there are a lot of advantages in that way,” said Dan Reid, who is competing in information network cabling.

Reid is also excited about having his friends and family cheering him on.

The clock stands at 98 days and counting until the competition hosts the opening ceremonies Sept 1.
