Couple arrested for five-day crime spree

Police on Saturday arrested a Massapequa man and his female accomplice who allegedly went on a five-day robbery spree that resulted in eight purse snatchings across Nassau County.

Authorities say Veronica Sarabella, 30, of Deer Park, and Alfonso Zitoli, 29, of Massapequa, first struck on Tuesday at a Massapequa Long Island Railroad Station. The following night, the pair robbed a victim in the parking lot of a King Kullen grocery store on Stewart Avenue in Bethpage, police said, and again the day after that at a Pathmark in Seaford.

Their alleged spree continued on Friday with three robberies, the first occurring in the lot of BJ’s at 12:35 p.m. in Levittown. Afterward, Sarabella allegedly drove up to a 31-year-old woman outside of Delco Plaza in a black Nissan and grabbed her purse, causing her to be dragged by the car until the strap broke, said police — who also claim Sarabella then knocked a 28-year-old woman to the ground at Jerusalem Avenue in Hicksville before escaping with her handbag.

The final two robberies took place Saturday at a King Kullen in Manhasset and at a Shop-Rite in Plainview, police said.
