Crash tax for wrecks

Starting July 1, the FDNY plans to start billing drivers who get into a car accident and need emergency services. The “crash tax” would plug budget holes, as the city simply “can no longer afford to provide” emergency services for free, according to an FDNY statement. If your car catches fire or someone is injured, it will cost $490. Accidents without injuries or fires will cost $365. The charges will be applied to every car involved in the accident.
