Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced CUNY School of Medicine’s accreditation on Tuesday. The Harlem campus will see it’s first class in 2016, and partner with the St. Barnabas Health System in the South Bronx.
The first graduates will mark the first time in about 170 years that CUNY and City College will award a doctor of medicine degree, according toChancellor James B. Milliken.
Cuomo said the new public medical school will help train more physicians to care for underserved communities in New York, and address an impending shortage of doctors in the Empire State.
