The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly interested in trading for Celtics guard Rajon Rondo, according to ESPNDallas.com.

The one thing that could pave the way to a deal would be for the Mavs to take back several of the Celtics’ heftier contracts, including Gerald Wallace’s (three years, $30.32 million remaining), Brandon Bass (two years, $13.35 million remaining and/or Courtney Lee (three years, $16.35 million).

The Celtics are also reportedly interested in the Mavs’ first round pick, Shane Larkin – a point guard out of Miami – but the only reason the C’s would likely consider such a deal would be if they were fully intending on tanking the 2013-14 season in order to land a top draft pick. The 2014 NBA Draft is expected to be one of the more talented classes in years as it has drawn comparisons to the 2003 field, which included LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony.
