Darryl Lynch, city teacher, charged with sex abuse

A city teacher has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl.

The NYPD reported last night that Connecticut resident Darryl Lynch, 55, was arrested and charged with forcible touching, sexual abuse and acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 years old.

He was arrested after someone complained, according to the NYPD.

Lynch has been an ROTC teacher at Manhattan’s High School of Graphic Communication Arts since 1997, Department of Education spokeswoman Marge Feinberg said. His salary is $100,049.

He has been assigned away from the classroom, she said.

“I am outraged by these charges, and have no tolerance for adults who betray the trust of their students and school communities,” Schools Chancellor Dennis Walcott said in a statement. “Any individual who has an inappropriate relationship with a student will be removed from the classroom as soon as allegations surface — and moving forward, be barred from teaching in our schools if those charges have merit.”

Lynch is the sixth city teacher arrested this year on similar charges.
