Dartmouth house search continues

Three days on and police continue to pick through the house at 51 Weyburn Dr. in Dartmouth.

Police entered the house on Saturday with a search warrant. It’s the residence of Steven Elliot Laffin, 35, who is in jail waiting for a September court date related to his charges of kidnapping, forcible confinement, aggravated sexual assault and death threats against a woman.

The incident happened on Aug. 16, allegedly involving a female prostitute from Spryfield. She was allegedly locked in a trunk and escaped while the vehicle was moving.

“I think we’re going to be on scene at least another day,” police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said yesterday.

Palmeter wouldn’t say why it’s taking longer than a typical search, or what police are looking for.

Police aren’t saying whether the search is related to the disappearance of a Halifax prostitute. Nadine Taylor, 29, has been missing since July 28.

“The Taylor matter is an ongoing investigation,” Palmeter said. “We’re still following all leads that come in and we’re still asking for anyone with information to contact police.
