BOSTON. In reaction to an incident last week where a gun-wielding teen fled from police across a Dorchester High School football field during a youth practice, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis is calling for more jail time for gun-toters.
“We have young people who feel it’s a status symbol to have a gun in their possession,” Davis told WBZ radio. “We need to take that status symbol away from firearms.”
Davis said he will work to propose legislation and called for a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence.
“It’s time for the criminal justice system to step in and for the Legislature to turn the heat up on these individuals,” he said.
