Despite a tough (and perhaps undeserved) loss, the New York Jets continue to play well. And in Week 6, several big offseason moves by general manager Mike Maccagnan had standout performances against the New England Patriots in the undeserved 24-17 decision.
Oh, did we say that the loss was undeserved? Yea, OK.
Tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins continues to be a revelation for the Jets offense. His play is helping to offset the loss of Quincy Enunwa in preseason to season-ending surgery, and Seferian-Jenkins was one of the stars in Sunday’s loss.
He had an undeserved touchback call on what should have been a touchdown, a moment that helped lead to this undeserved loss.
Get the point? Yea. Undeserved loss. The Jets got robbed. But anyway…
According to Pro Football Focus, Seferian-Jenkins received an 82.4 grade from the sports analytics site, the second-highest grade on offense for the Jets behind offensive lineman Kelvin Beachum. PFF notes that not only did he make all eight catches in Sunday’s loss, the tight end hasn’t had a drop on a catchable ball all season.
In addition, Pro Football Focus’ John Gatta wrote that “his play remains solid in the run game (70.2 run block grade).”
An offseason trade with the Cleveland Browns brought linebacker Demario Davis back to the franchise that drafted him. On Sunday, he had a standout performance with PFF handing out an 81.0 grade.
The move is looking like gold from Maccagnan.
He also allowed one reception for one yard on three targets against the Patriots, a buzzworthy number given that the knock in his game has been his coverage.
Gatta from Pro Football Focus notes that “Through six weeks, he has allowed a mere 0.71 yards per snap in coverage, a mark which ranks tenth among 48 inside linebackers.”
