Daytime shooting alarms cops

Average Calgarians could easily be caught in the crossfire of gang violence, as indicated by Tuesday’s daytime drive-by shooting, say police.

The two cars involved in the shooting were driving in the southeast community of Dover. One car lost control and drove into a neighbourhood fence.

Matthew Chubak, who was allegedly involved in gang activity, was identified yesterday as the man found dead inside the vehicle.

“When we’re talking about all the violence that’s been occurring in Calgary, we know specifically that it’s two groups that are at war,” said Staff Sgt. Gord Eiriksson. “What we care about is that we have shots that are being fired in our streets … Vehicles are going through fences where kids could be playing. Shots could be hitting houses. This is what concerns us.”
