Deadly toll for long weekend

Seven people died in B.C. while taking part in outdoor activities or on the province’s roads this Victoria Day long weekend.

The body of a 46-year-old man was found in the Barriere River near Clearwater, RCMP said yesterday.

Adrien Joseph Lozeau was at a gathering with about 15 others on Sunday when he went missing around 1 p.m. His body was located about one kilometre downstream from the campsite by helicopter.

On Sunday, two people in their 50s died and another was injured after a pickup truck rolled off the road in Merritt.

That same day, a six-year-old boy died after falling in the water and being swept away at Lynn Creek in North Vancouver.

On Saturday, a Chilliwack woman, 46, died after falling from the top of Rainbow Falls near Harrison Host Springs.

On Friday night, two people died near Port Alberni. A 53-year-old man is missing and is presumed drowned after he and his common-law wife fell out of their boat on Sproat Lake. At Nahmint Lake, a 23-year-old man died of his injuries after failing to negotiate a curve on his ATV.
