Death of man found in Harlem air shaft ruled a homicide

A man who was found dead in an air shaft in Harlem was the victim of a homicide, police said on Thursday.

Cops responded to the call about an unconscious male at 1971 Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. about 9 a.m. on Wednesday. When they arrived, they found a man fully clothed and unconscious between two buildings. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The medical examiner later determined that the man’s death was a homicide. The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Derrick Sutton, who lived nearby at 204 W. 118th St.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
