A freight train that derailed west of Hickville on Tuesday afternoon will likely lead to a messy ride home for commuters.

The Long Island Rail Road said the derailed train is blocking one of the two tracks on the Ronkonkomaand Port Jefferson branch lines. Trains will only run on one line between Westbury and Hicksville.

Other branches will be affected, and all westbound service from Port Jefferson, Huntington and Ronkonkoma to Jamaica is canceled until 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Buses are available for bypassed stations.

The LIRR will reduce service overnight as crews repair the damaged rails and work to get the train back on the tracks.

The derailment of the train carrying construction materials happened around 1:10 p.m. and no injuries were reported.

Updated service information is available on the MTA’s website or on the LIRR’s Twitter page.
