Derek Lowe gets World Series ring stolen

The 2004 Red Sox were a lovable bunch and arguably the most popular Boston sports team in history. Actually, that’s not arguable. That’s a fact.

A big reason for this was that they were seen as being a rowdy crew that had no issue throwing a few back, before, during and after a big game.

While Pedro Martinez and Kevin Millar were seen awkwardly celebrating Fenway’s 100th anniversary last Friday (fittingly on top of the Sox dugout holding giant bottles of bubbly), another former Sox star from 2004 was having a rough weekend.

Yup, Derek Lowe had his 2004 World Series championship ring stolen from his Fort Myers, Fla. home last week, according to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.

Necklaces, women’s shoes and purses were also reportedly taken from the home with the total value of the items reaching nearly $100,000.

While this is rough news for Lowe, it’s certainly not the first time he’s been around shady happenings.

He was charged with drunken driving while allegedly racing another vehicle in downtown Atlanta last year. And there, of course, was no shortage of alcohol abuse rumors during his days while pitching with the Red Sox.But who is Boston to judge now?

The Red Sox could certainly use the 38-year-old Lowe in the rotation right now. He’s 2-1 this year with Cleveland, owning a respectable 3.50 ERA.
