Despite recession, Ottawa housing market hot

An Ottawa neighbourhood was named among Canada’s hottest 21 neighbourhoods in which housing prices had increased over the last year.

According to a Century 21 Canada Hottest 21 Neighbourhoods survey released Thursday, the hottest neighbourhood in Ottawa is the central area of Greenboro, bounded by Conroy Road and the CNR/CPR right of way.

In this neighbourhood, average prices were $277,434 in April 2009, an increase of 15 per cent from $235,956 in March 2009 and an increase of 3 per cent from $268,028 in April 2008.

Other neighbourhoods in Canada’s major cities that have dodged the recession and experienced robust price increases over the past year are located in Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Halifax and Regina.
