Treat yourself to champagne and chocolate

Surviving a Monday always calls for a treat, and tonight it’s a $15 champagne and chocolate tasting in Midtown West. Laurent Tourondel’s casual American-Italian spot L’Amico (849 Avenue of the Americas) hosts a biweekly Meet the Craftsman series, and on April 11 Francois Gigandet of H. Blin Champagne will be pouring samples of the winemaker’s entire collection, from bruit to demi-sec, paired with Freaky Health Co.’s raw, herb-infused organic chocolates. The event takes place from 6-8 p.m. in the Hidden Bar tucked behind L’Amico; tickets available at the door.

One-off dishes for Thai Restaurant Week

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is bringing the Songkran Festival to NYC, with a week’s worth of special menu items at restaurants around the city that celebrate the Thai new year. These dishes are traditionally lighter fare with strong flavors and fresh aromas, so expect spice and lots of herbs. Just a few of the options, available from April 11-17, are Galanga’s Chiang Mai-style curry noodles, a spicy papaya salad with crispy salmon at Kiin, and Puff Cha’s stewed pork hocks over rice. Other restaurants like Qi will offer entire one-off prix fixe menus. Here is the full list of participating restaurants and their unique dishes.

There are more ways to serve suckling pig than off a barbecue pit slathered in sauce. Every Tuesday during the month of April, chef Phillipe Bertineau at Parisian bistroBenoit(60 W. 55th St.) will lead a tasting tour of his native France, preparing a 16-pound hog in regionally specific ways. This week highlights Brittany, with a Paimpol-style cranberry bean casserole, artichoke hearts confit in butter and the main event au jus with Pommereau.
