Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant apparently needs his babysitter with him on the sideline as well.
The petulant wideout again garnered attention for all the wrong reasons Sunday against Detroit as he threw multiple temper tantrums on the sideline.
First, Bryant targeted quarterback Tony Romo, who ignored his receiver’s complaints. So, he turned to wide receivers coach (and former University of Tennessee head coach) Derek Dooley, who also more or less ignored him. The good news is Romo has an infant right now, so he’s used to crying and complaining for no apparent reason.
Bryant had two touchdown catches and 72 yards receiving on six targets, so it’s hard to see what he’s complaining about.
He had his second sideline outburst of the game right after Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford scored the go-ahead touchdown with 12 seconds left in the game. It’s hard to tell what he was mad about, but it appears as though he had no desire to go back in the game with only seconds left for a miracle play. Tight end Jason Witten angrily shouted him down and told him to get it together after the second rant. But Bryant was having none of it.
After the game he was unapologetic for his outbursts.
“My passion is always positive,” said Bryant. “It’s always positive. It’s going to remain the same way. I’m not saying anything wrong. I’m not saying anything bad. It’s all positive. That’s just what it is.”
Witten clearly disagreed with his “positive” outlook.
There’s no question Bryant is insanely talented, but he’s got to tone down the diva behavior. It’s never benefited any of the many receivers— Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss— who have carried that reputation.
