Dismissed Alabama RB Tyren Jones Twitter account says ‘First Round bound’

You know that 11-year-oldkid you played hoop with growing up that said he was going to North Carolina? You remember how he got cut from the freshman team?

Everyone has that kid in their neighborhood growing up. Yes, hopes and dreams of athletic stardom are great. What kid hasn’t dreamt of being a pro athlete? But if you have to constantly remind people that you’re going to play for Coach K one day or – if you’re a footballer – that you’re going to “play on Sundays” in a few years, chances are those dreams are going to be crushed sooner rather than later.

Running back Tyren Jones sadly had his dreams all but crushed Tuesday and his little-used Twitter account@TyrenJones2looks mighty foolish right now as his “title” says in caps: “FIRST ROUND BOUND.”

Alabama dismissed Jones from the program after his arrest on second-degree marijuana possession charges. Jones had already been suspended indefinitely in February for something Nick Saban described as “conduct not to the standard of the Alabama football program.”

The problem is, the standard for the Alabama football program these days IS getting arrested. Safety Geno Smith (DUI) anddefensive tackle Jonathan Taylor (domestic violence) were arrested in the past four days.

Jones will very likely land with another program. He redshirted in 2013 and has played just one full NCAA season (he ran for 224 yards on 36 carries and two touchdowns this past season). But he’s a lot closer to becoming that “kid in your neighborhood growing up” than he is to NFL stardom.
