Doc Gooden hoping Tim Tebow will make it to the big leagues with Mets

EAST HANOVER, N.J. – Count Doc Gooden as among those on the Tim Tebow bandwagon, the former New York Mets and New York Yankees ace excited about the football star who is now trying his hand at baseball.

In his first game in the minor leagues, Tebow took the first pitch of his first at bat and sent the ball over the right field fence. Earlier this month, Tebow signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets as the former NFL quarterback and Heisman winner appears willing to move on from playing professional football.

At an event at Miami Mike’s Sports Zone run in conjunction with JAG Marketing, Gooden talked about his thoughts on Tebow’s first pitch home run to start his baseball career. In fact, it sounds like Gooden wants to see Tebow in the blue and orange and at Citi Field next year.

“I thought it was great that he did that. He’s living the dream and playing, it’s super,” Gooden told Metro at the event at Miami Mike’s. “I hope he makes it, it would be a big inspiration to a lot of people.”

Gooden is a four-time All-Star and won the 1985 National League Cy Young Award. He is a member of the New York Mets Hall of Fame.
