Does Lonzo Ball really need a reality TV show right now?

2017, NBA, Mock, Draft, Lonzo Ball, Celtics

What a time to be alive.

Over the past few years, I’ve learned that if you act like a boisterous buffoon long enough, you will be rewarded with a lot of money and maybe even a show on TV or the internet.

LaVar Ball was the latest to reap the rewards of his, let’s say, quirkiness, as Deadline reported on Wednesday that Facebook greenlighted a docuseries following around him and his sons Lonzo, Liangelo and LaMelo.

The basketball dad who works full time as his son Lonzo’s hype man will likely take center stage in the series. It’s also safe to assume that he will be lighting up social media with every single action.

Let’s be honest, even though Lonzo developed into a star at UCLA and was drafted second-overall by the Los Angeles Lakers, all eyes are going to be on LaVar once the cameras start rolling.

Is this good for Lonzo?

The 19-year-old is about three months away from making his NBA debut with one of the most popular franchises in the world. Heaping a reality show that will follow him around everywhere is something that just seems unnecessary for a young, budding basketball star.

Within such an enormous market like Los Angeles, there is already going to be enough attention on him. He won’t even be able to get away from all the ruckus in his own home with this show getting the green light.

Not to mention, his brother Liangelo is 18 and LaMelo is just 15. So much for a normal college experience or childhood for that matter.

But I would be ignorant to suggest that millions of viewers won’t tune in every episode to see what LaVar and company does next.
