Singer, actor, ‘Wahlburgers’ star and now photographer? Local Donnie Wahlberg has teamed up with camera company Canon to showcase some of his own original photos as part of a pop up art gallery at the Epicenter gallery. “I’m enjoying being a person behind the camera instead of the person in front of the camera,” says Wahlberg of his new interest.

You can see the photos by Wahlberg and others in a special one night exhibit at Epicenter. As to what the former New Kid likes to photograph, Wahlberg says he’s inspired by his home city. He took one picture, of a little boy playing in the fountain at the Christian Science Center, because it reminded him of his own childhood, when he and his siblings used to play in public pools. “It just reminded me of my brother Mark, shirtless, with his diaper hangin’ out of his shorts, just playing in the water, and that was very reflective of our upbringing,” says Wahlberg.

Visitors to the gallery also have the chance to win prizes, such as a camera or a PIXMA PRO printer, as well as signed prints from the photographers.

If you’re inspired to start taking your own photos, Wahlberg thinks Boston is a great place to take pictures. “I’d say the best thing about Boston itself is, most everywhere you go, theres’ going to be something that aesthetically, if not pleasing, at least interesting, and everything is five minutes away from each other.” In other words, if your current neighborhood isn’t inspiring your shutterbug impulses, you’re only a few minutes away from a new option.
