Don’t drink and walk, doctor urges

Alcohol impairs many of the faculties that normally keep you safe, says trauma surgeon Dr. Thomas Esposito at Loyola University in Chicago.

For instance, you may not be able to judge whether it’s safe to cross a street at night. Esposito sees the effects of drinking and walking in the trauma room every year.

In addition, his cousin was killed when he was struck by a car after opting to walk home from a New Year’s party instead of driving.

More than half of pedestrians who are killed on New Year’s Day have been drinking, according to studies.
