Dorchester man held in shooting of girlfriend

A 22-year-old Dorchester man was held without bail today for allegedly shooting his on and off girlfriend 5 times during a party early yesterday morning.

Junior Fernandes was charged with murder and gun crimes for shooting 21-year-old Alessa Castellon about 3 a.m. Sunday.

The couple had an “on again off again” relationship, prosecutors said.

Fernandes called Castellon from a party on Granger Street in Dorchester. When she showed up, the two went outside to talk about their relationship. That talk turned in to arguing, according to court documents.

Fernandes told police that he fired the gun after Castellon “began to smack, hit and punch him,” according to court documents.

A prosecutor said police recovered the gun and are awaiting forensic tests.

Fernandes pleaded not guilty and his lawyer said he had no record and did not fight the prosecutor’s request that he be held without bail.
